A much sought after single malt with the massive peat smoke that is so typical of the Islay malts, but also with a dryness that makes this malt really interesting.
Color: Dark amber / gold.
Smell: Intense peat smoke with iodine and seaweed and a rich, deep sweetness.
Body: Full, rich.
Taste: Dry peat smoke with a gentle but strong sweetness, followed by sea and salt with a splinter of wood.
Finish: Long, elegant and full of peat, followed by lots of salt and seaweed.

Tämä on pitkään ollut yksi suosikkiviskeistäni. Viime vuosina hinta on noussut ja laatu huonontunut. Alkumaku mukavan hedelmäinen, sitten tunkkaisuus puskee esiin, ihan kuin olisi pohjaanpalanut. Pitkä jälkimaku, tunkkaisuus hieman laimenee ja hedelmäisyys tasaa maun. Happea saatuuan makuterävyys laimenee niinkuin yleensä viskipulloissa. Tässä tuo tunkkaisuus vähenee ja viski on jo ihan juotavaa, mutta ei se tätä pelasta. Suuri pettymys.
Nose: Turf, rook, zeewier, jodum, lichte tonen van citrusvruchten, pure chocolade
Taste: Turf, caramel, zeewier, sinaasappel, pruimen, pure chocolade, peper
Finish: Lang met zoete turf, zeewier, gedroogde pruimen en zwarte thee.

Nose: Smoky right form the start. Sweet and spicy with iodine and peat. Enriched smoke turns into sweet peat towards the end.
Taste: Powerful peat with hints of oak and a malty side. Smoke is there all the way but stays delicately in the background with sweet notes.
Finish: Long with spicy peat and smoke combined together. Has some nutty notes and a bit earthly feel.
Balance: 'Thick beauty' that manages to advance in a consistent way.

16yo zeer ok! helaas in de handen van Deagio... De 16yo is het vlagschip van Lagavulin. Smaak is tikkeltje waterig, wel lekker. Zoete tonen met een subtiele peat-hint. Weinig slechte woorde voor Lagavulin, maar lijken eigen identiteit wat kwijt te raken.

Caramel, peat, vanilla ice cream, citrus and whipped cream.
Taste
Caramel (Wehrter's), toffee, peat, mocha, creamy vanilla, cloves and apple.
Finish
Long with peat smoke, caramel and milk chocolate.
