Mid 19th century British culture present in their empire everywhere. Especially in India. Therefore the British transports regularly full loads of their favorite pale ale to the colony.

But the journey was long and difficult conditions: despite the many storms had retained the ale its properties and flavor. Therefore, added the brewers of Queen Victoria plants and flowers, in particular hop, in order to stabilize the beer.

The British brewer John Martin moved to Antwerp and got his beer with the unique drooghoptechniek where hops are added at the end of fermentation. The result? A very balanced, aromatic and bitter specialty beer with a pronounced hop flavor. Ideal for the long journey across the ocean.

Food Pairing:

Seafood, fried fish, boiled fish, charcuterie, white meat, red meat, pasta, pizza, strong cheese and Camembert.

Tasting Notes:

Smell: ripe orange fruits, complemented by the spiciness of the hops through the dry hopping and a hint of white flowers.
Taste: mouthfeel by the pronounced hopboeket. A powerful bitterness from the start, dry slightly peppery aftertaste.
