After since 1990 to have begun as an amateur winemaker is brewmaster Erik Bouman in 1994 the brewing complete virus struck. In March 1995 Bouman joined the amateur brewer club 't Wort What! In January 1997 the 1st Dutch championships was won for amateur brewers in the winter beer class with the later Erik the Norseman.

Shortly thereafter, in May 1997, it entered by Bouman beer of the English type "Porter" from more than 400 beers submitted was chosen as the best beer at the 13th General Dutch championships across all classes. This Bouman was Dutch champion amateur brewer in 1997.

After it was tasted by brewing the now vaunted Polderbok for 't Wort What, even once to the professional brewing Erik the Norseman was born. Both beers were brewed at the Bouman Scheldebrouwerij in 's Gravenpolder, famous for their beers Zeeland.
