The award-winning BenRiach Distillery has a new, on Quarter Cask matured peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky launched on June 7, 2016. The authors praise the outcome as a "fruit bomb peated.
This innovative release revives a tradition from the past; use smaller 'quarterback' barrels and as the whiskey to give a greater intensity of maturation.
This unusual Speyside single malt distilled from peated barley, fully matured in quarter casks and bottled at 46%.
A smaller vessel like the quarterback cask, allows for more interaction between wood and alcohol. This gives the whiskey in a shorter time depth in taste and aroma.
Bright summery gold
Wood smoke with burnt heather, ripe orchard fruit, subtle hints of peach, cinnamon sugar and spicy hints of fresh barley.
An intense peat smoke from smoldering light turfbriquets infused with notes of green pear and nectarine. Nutty oak and vanilla pods combine with a hint of white pepper and lime. Smoky aftertaste.
