Bowmore, 'the first Islay Single Malt since 1779, "introduces Bowmore Small Batch, the first permanent addition to the Bowmore range since 2006. Small Batch is matured exclusively' first and second fill 'bourbon casks and bottled at 40% alc. Bowmore Small Batch presents the taste of Islay at its best.
This new expression shows Bowmore's distinctive flavor balance of peat smoke, saltiness and sweetness subtly. Bowmore Small Batch the best "first & second fill 'bourbon barrels are selected for bottling in" small batches. The result shows the best of both types of vessels:
- 'First bourbon casks give their vanilla sweetness, spice and subtle smokiness of the bourbon oak barrels in addition to Bowmore's soft peat smoke
- 'Second fill' bourbon barrels enrich Bowmore's fresh, fruity complexity, and strengthen Bowmore's characteristic honey sweetness.
Rachel Barrie, Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd. Master Blender:. "Small Batch is like a summer day on Islay. The sweet smoked barley and best bourbon barrels create a harmony of ripe fruit, honey and hint of smoke. Relax, and imagine yourself on Islay! "
Tasting Notes Bowmore Small Batch, 40% alc:.
Color: Warm golden yellow.
Aroma: vanilla, toffee, saltiness and peat smoke, nicely balanced with honey and cinnamon.
Taste: Fresh citrus, soft saltiness, vanilla, hint of coconut.
Aftertaste: A little smoke, with some vanilla and lime.
Nose: Spicy with peat, honey and vanilla. Kinda like a bourbon nose. Peat stays on the background with hints of lime.
Taste: Thin with grassy notes and citrus. Light, salty and peaty.
Finish: Spices and dryness. Nice notes of lime again. Little bit of peat smoke.
Balance: First Islay dram to be so light in every way. For me at least. Even Bunnahabhain whiskies tend to be stronger, more characteristic.
