This delayed release was of course already planned last year, but it will finally be here at the end of 2022! This expression is made with the same cask recipe as the "regular" Machir Bay Bottling.
However, Kilchoman's whoppers have now chosen not to reduce the strength to 46%. This is a pure edition in which a number of bottles have been released at cask strength: 58.3%. Due to this higher alcohol percentage, the sublime quality and intensity of this Kilchoman spirit come into its own even better.
Opens with light, fruity notes influenced by the distillation. Being cask strength, the whiskey provides intense waves of fresh green apple followed by candied tropical fruits. Lingering scents of dry, earthy peat smoke are the backbone for this release.
Remarkably powerful at this higher strength, creating a concentrated taste with Citrus tones, especially from lemon and orange peel. As the whiskey opens, a dominant honeycomb sweetness is revealed, giving way to a profile driven by milk chocolate. This is in turn due to the Bourbon-rich maturation.
You taste black pepper in combination with nutmeg. The oily, rich texture of this whiskey delivers an increasingly smoky influence in the finish. Overall, it is a unique balance of heavily peated malts, slow distillation, and oak-rich character.
