Port Ellen is launching one of their most limited and oldest whiskeys ever. The Port Ellen 40 Years '9 Rogue Casks' is the ultimate premium whiskey of the moment. It is the second member of the prestigious 'Untold Stories' series.

The newest member of the Port Ellen family consists of 9 barrels yielding a total of 1380 bottles. The whiskey was bottled at 50.9 percent and distilled in 1979, four years before the distillery closed its doors. That there are still so many barrels at all four decades later is almost a miracle.

OFFICIAL TASTING NOTES

Smell: Delicate, grassy / spicy, burnt tangerine peel, mild smoke. Water releases a few more scents, such as crème caramel, coffee, red fruit and ripe peach.

Taste: Much more pronounced campfire smoke, pipe tobacco, leather and spices.

Finish: Long with a subtle smoke influence.
