Single Cask Exclusives Speyside GT002 8 Years Old
0.70 ltr. 50%
GT002 (From Glentauchers Distillery)
First fill sherry butt
Nose: Wow, lots of berries and cherries with leather in full sun and fruit yogurt
Taste: oak and grass gekuild again with cherries and milk chocolate
Finish: long hot pie with red fruit
Young wood, furniture and sawdust. Quite some woodspice. Cloves, both fresh and used with beef. This gives it a 'umami' feeling. Nutmeg and just a pinch of cinnamon. Cooked and mashed potatoes.
Wax from pinewood, good and dry mouth filling whisky. Spicy oak feeling. Bitter and sweet notes from grapefruit and vanilla oh and even a little artichokes. Again lots of herbs. Nutmeg and cloves, but also cardamom.
Rather long and dry with spices and herbs to match.
Really loved this unique profile. I can imagine that a whisky with notes like this doesn't sound great and it probably isn't for all to love.
If you try both batches, make sure you try batch 02 before 01. Batch 01 clearly is the easier one, it's just a nice sweet sherried whisky and more accessible. Batch 02 is more focussed on the herbs and quirky. Which one is better? 01 is nicer, 02 is more complex. Just buy both!
