Matured for an initial nine years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before being carefully divided. One half continues its maturation in bourbon barrels, the other half is transferred to 30 year old Matusalem oloroso sherry casks. Complex, yet balanced, The Dalmore 12 year old is the epitome of the Dalmore house style.
Nose: Oranges and nutty chocolate comes up very well. Marzipan starts to embrace you very powerfully even at this point.
Taste: Notes of citrus with sherry and caramel and of course the marzipan strikes through.
Finish: Very very smooth and seems like there's no afterburn at all. Oranges, plums and marzipan.
Orange, raisin, malt, marzipan, hay, dark cherry and vanilla.
Orange, raisin, straw, malt, cereals and marzipan.
Marzipan, orange liquor, dark chocolate, espresso, raisin, malt and grain cookies. Light spices and eventually some rubber.
A decent introduction to Dalmore, but it's still a bit too youthful for my taste. For a few euros more you've got the more treacly 15-year-old which offers more value-for-money in my opinion, I scored it 3 points higher than this one.
