Almaviva is a prestigious Chilean winery, born from a collaboration between the French Château Mouton Rothschild and the Chilean Concha y Toro in 1997. Located in the Maipo Valley, Almaviva produces a Bordeaux-style blend based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon, and to a lesser extent Carménère, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The estate combines French winemaking expertise with the ideal Chilean terroir. The unique climate of the Maipo Valley, with warm days and cool nights, allows the grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with balance, complexity, and rich fruity flavors.
Almaviva 2023 was aged for 20 months in French oak, 70% of which was new, contributing to its complexity and refinement. The wine has a deep ruby red color and opens on the nose with a layered bouquet of ripe cassis, wild strawberries, and blackberries, supported by notes of cedar, spices, vanilla, and cocoa. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with ripe, velvety tannins and a perfect balance between power and elegance.
Almaviva wines are known for their elegance, structure and aging potential, and often receive praise from wine connoisseurs worldwide.
Almaviva 2023 -Jamessuckling.com - 97/100 A refined wine showing lovely fruit with less verticality than the 2022, but here the magic is the roundness and smoothness, which is really balanced. Subtle cedar, tobacco, olives and paprika on the nose. Sweet berries and fruit on the palate, with a medium to full body and a long, nuanced finish. More precise in terms of tannins this year, with immediate approachability. 74% cabernet sauvignon, 19% carmenere, 5% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. 73% new oak and the rest is second use. Drink from 2026. - Zekun Shuai
