Voskevaz Vintage Areni Noir is a medium bodied fine wine made from the delicate native Armenian grape variety Areni Noir, also called the 'king of the Armenian grapes'. The wine is aged for 6 months in local Armenian oak and has an alcohol content of 13%. This award-winning wine comes from the Aragatsotn region, village of Voskevaz and is one of the many creations of the Voskevaz winery. A wonderful addition for all your occasions.

Tasting notes

This elegant burgundy wine reveals a light bouquet of ripe cherries, complex aromas of red fruit and spices, supple tannins and a smooth finish. The Voskevaz Vintage Areni Noir is a juicy and easy to drink wine with a real kick. The wine goes perfectly with duck and other dark poultry, mushrooms or pâté and terrines. Serving temperature 15-17ºC.

Producer

The winery's new life began in 2004, when David Hovhannisyan, an Armenian entrepreneur who returned to his homeland after years of living in Russia, invested heavily in Voskevaz with the ultimate goal of reviving and renewing its former glory. To help with this mission, his brothers Gago and Armen also left their safe lives in the United States and Russia. Thus, the entire family returned to Armenia to support David in rebuilding the winery.

David Hovhannisyan attempted to revive traditional Armenian winemaking techniques. So he embarked on a journey across the country in search of karases that he could use to make his wines. Clay amphorae have been an essential part of Armenia's winemaking tradition throughout the millennia of its history. However, in the 20th century, the karas method was almost forgotten. Voskevaz was among the first wineries to start using karases in modern Armenia. As a result, today some of the best wines from the Voskevaz wine range are vinified in karases.
