Grape variety/vinification
The story of Cielo begins in 1908. Giovanni Cielo purchased a plot of vineyard between Vicenza and Verona, overlooking the castles of Romeo and Juliet. Over a hundred years later, the fourth generation of winemakers pays tribute to Giovanno Cielo: Nero di Gio. The Cielo 1908 Nero di Gio is an Italian red wine that is a blend of primarily the Montepulciano, Negroamaro, and Merlot grape varieties.
Nero di Gio combines the best Italy has to offer: the fruitiness from the north with the fullness and richness from the south. Various indigenous grape varieties, vinified separately with aging in oak.
Taste
Nero di Gio, loosely translated as Gio's black; this is what Giovanni Cielo called his rich red wines. Firm and concentrated with notes of black cherry and blackberry, a touch of cinnamon, and hints of coffee and licorice.
Wine/food pairing
Try this wine with grilled meat, pulled pork with red onion chutney, or a hearty ragù.
