Product description

The most famous dessert wine from Croatia is Prošek. In terms of name it of course resembles an Italian Prosecco, but it has no similarities in properties. Prosecco is a sparkling wine. The dessert wine Prošek was given a different name after Croatia's accession to the EU. It was then decided that the wine should abandon its former name and the new name would be Jakov.

Prošek can be compared to the Italian dessert wine Vino Santo, it is made according to the pasito method. The grapes are picked late in the harvest period, then the grapes are dried on straw mats. Due to the high residual sugars in the wine, it can be kept for at least one to two years after opening.

A characteristic taste of Vinoplod Jakov Prošek

Vinoplod Jakov Prošek is an authentic dessert wine made from the Croatian grapes, Debit, Trbljan and Maraština. The wine can be recognized by its pleasant smell and taste. You can taste the flavor of raisins, walnuts, figs and apricots right from the first drop. Characteristic of the wine are its beautiful acidity and soft creamy taste, followed by a nice long aftertaste.

Basque 'burnt' cheesecake or a delicious chocolate ice cream are a good food combination for this unique wine. Jakov Prošek is also delicious as an aperitif or with coffee. If you feel like making it even more exciting, combine the wine with a fish dish or a cheese board.

About the winery

The Vinoplod winery was founded in 1959 in the Dalmatia wine region. The annual yield is not much, because the soil where the grapes grow is poor in nutrients. The yield is sometimes only 500 grams per vine, which is a very special yield given the ecological viticulture and production.

Vinoplod produces wines from native grapes such as Maraština, Babić, Plavina, Merlot, Debit and Trbljan. In addition to wine, Vinoplod also produces liqueurs and spirits, such as brandy, vodka and gin.
