In the early years, the now 21-year-old whiskey was placed on a barrel combination of ex-bourbon and American oak. The last period the whiskey has been in an Oloroso sherry cask for a period of 6 months. In addition to notes of sherry, the whiskey has acquired shades of dried fruit. This provides an extra bit of finesse that flows through all the aromas that the whiskey is rich in. In addition, the characteristic features of Glen Scotia continue to recur for which they are known. Such as intense fruitiness, sweet raisins and influences of Atlantic sea air. The 21 Year Old Glen Scotia is an exceptional single malt that represents the true character of a refined and classic Campbeltown whisky.

“Our new 21 year old single malt has an exceptional character. For one long time we toyed with the idea of releasing one more special edition for our fans worldwide. Glen Scotia 21 Year Old has a wonderful interplay with Oloroso sherry casks, but with a shorter maturation period (six months) than the 18 Year Old, bringing the underlying signature distillery character more to the fore. We hope to release a new batch every year.”

High quality barrels

As is well known, Glen Scotia uses the best possible casks and they know how to claim them continuously. The fact that this is no sinecure is evident from the scarcity that currently prevails on the market. Nevertheless, thanks to a specialized team led by the master distillers, Glen Scotia manages to obtain the best possible casks. The whiskey is packaged in a beautiful premium Glen Scotia bottle wrapped in a color mix of purple and gold. In addition, an elegant metal coin in the shape of Glen Scotia's 'GS' logo is placed inside the bottle, which is presented in a display box which is ideal for collectors or to give as a gift.

Glen Scotia has seen many successes in recent years. Its entry onto the world stage has not gone smoothly. The addition of the 21 year old whiskey is a new highlight for the Campbeltown based distillery. This whiskey is an extension of the core range and bridges the gap between the 18 and 25 year old editions. During the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021, these were awarded 'Best in Class' and 'Best in the World'. This creates high expectations for the 21-year-old Glen Scotia, which is released annually in a limited edition with a different finish every year.

Tasting notes

Nose: sweet notes of Oloroso, red apple and distinctive Campbeltown aromas.

Taste: baked red apple, raisins, anise, cloves, cinnamon, creamy vanilla and caramel.

Finish: intensely long, complex but very balanced, with a hint of salty sea air and dry sherry notes.
