Tasting notes: The light peat notes come from selected casks made with Scottish peat from the Aberdeen area. On the nose, honey, cocoa, espresso, fruit, and a hint of campfire. On the palate, initially somewhat grassy, followed by the peat, and then more mint and mocha. A spicy finish with chocolate and mint.
Additional Information: The Paul John Distillery is located in tropical Goa and is part of John Distilleries. The Single Malts were released in 2012. For their whiskies, they use Indian “Six-Row Barley,” which grows at the foot of the Himalayas. Compared to the “Two-Row Barley” used elsewhere, this results in a fruitier and oilier spirit. Maturation in the tropical climate of Goa, with its high temperatures and humidity, proceeds many times faster than in colder Scotland. Consequently, the Angel Share of their whiskies ranges between 8-10%. Part of their storage is located underground for cooler and quieter maturation of their casks. For their smoky whiskies, they import peat from Scotland, specifically from the island of Islay and the area near Aberdeen.
