Nose
Spicy, brown sugar, honey and orange. Also some distant peat is recognized.

Taste
the oak is apparent, quality casks, again orange and canned mandarine, christmas spices, orange with carnation in good balance with soft delicate peat smoke.

Finish
the finish is medium in length with some black pepper, orange peel, citrus and cayenne peppar.

Comments
The first time I had it I wasn't too impressed but after a few drams this has grown. there is complexity, character and good balance between oak and spirit, sweet and sour, fruit and peat. One of the most affordable whiskies I know. Will always have a spot in my cabinet for sure.

(Rating interval 85-88)

Nose
Malt sugar, straw, lime, vanilla, salt, grain and peat smoke.

Taste
Malt sugar, peat smoke, vanilla, almond, orange and grapefruit. The peat smoke gets stronger after a while.

Finish
Malt sugar, peat smoke, citrus, orange, marzipan and something like frying fat.

Unusual for a Speysider. A lovely gold colour without caramel added? Could very well be. It is unchillfiltered, thumbs up!

On the nose: old style sherry, a little hint of peat/smoke. It carries a lot, characterful stuff! Earthy tones mix with savoury notes. Minerals coming through.

Taste: it should have been 46% but even at 43% it packs quite the punch! There's a lot of hay, smouldering grass notes. Savoury again, so salty sometimes and bitter.. like mustard, but more like a combination of mustard and sweet mayonaise. Very thick. Seems older than 10 years but it is fresh. The bitterness is like cold tea/coffee. In this case it adds something of a subtle tannin like you find in a well-crafted wine. It's all quite delicate if you add a little water, but it can be harsh at first.

Finish: Lingering. Wood at last. Peppers, saltiness and something very sweet.. licorice? Some sherry notes and than a smoky fade. Very dry finish, again like a cold sip of Earl Grey.

This is a rough yet surprising dram. Quite different from anything I have tasted. With water it becomes way more balanced and the sherry notes become more expressive. This is one of those malts that you should pour two glasses of. One neat, one with water. The difference is just wonderful to experience. A real feast for the tastebuds, this Benromach 10! Recommended!
