Nose:
So much red fruit. You have to love it! If you've ever tasted anything with a "forest fruit" flavor, this nose will definitely ring a bell. I get dried sugared strawberries, fresh blueberries and blackberries, cherries and dates. It's like being over a stove while making fresh jam with hand-picked fruits from the forest. It may not be the most complex, because there's no escaping that sweet fruity explosion of scents, but who cares when it smells this good?

Palette:
This really took me by surprise! Where you would expect an almost overly sweet palate based on the nose, I find much more tannin than I would expect. But in the best possible way. It reminds me of a negroni, bitter but uniquely pleasant. Of the fruit, the cherry and blackberry are still there, but combined with that crisp tannic bitterness, it becomes a very balanced dram. If you are expecting a dessert-like treat based on the nose, you might be a little disappointed. But if you go looking for that balance and complexity, you will be amazed at how beautifully the sweet and bitter notes are integrated. A "bittersweet symphony" so to speak!

Aftertaste:
The finish is not that long, especially when compared to some of the other drams in this Explorers Pack. I would call it a medium finish at most. But I think that in the case of this dram, that is a good thing. It is a very pleasant experience, but one that allows you to follow it up with another whisky. I find some prunes, dried apricots and a touch of oak on the sides of the tongue. All in all, pleasant, but a bit short-lived.

Conclusion:
This Glaschu Glengoyne 11 is a whisky that perfectly suits the season. When I drink this whisky, I immediately start daydreaming about all the dishes I would like to serve with it. Game, wild boar, hare stew. And those are just a few dishes that come to mind. And imagine sipping this after a long cold walk, by a crackling fireplace. Heaven on earth!
